Trump says willing to accept election results: NYT

Xinhua | Updated: 2026-11-04 13:47

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump said he is "absolutely willing to accept" the election results, according to a New York Times (NYT) report on Tuesday.

In an interview with two NYT reporters, Trump blamed Republicans' losses on the fact that he was not on the ballot, and said he was willing to work with Democrats.

US media has projected that Democrats had won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the US midterm elections.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump acknowledged that the war in Iran played a role in Republicans' losses in Tuesday's midterm elections.

US media reported earlier Tuesday when asked about the prospect of the Democratic Party taking control of Congress next year, Trump voiced his preparedness to veto Democratic legislation if necessary.

Trump said he welcomes the moniker "Mr. Veto," in an interview with CBS News before polls closed in the mid-term elections across the country. "I have the ultimate power -- it's called 'veto.'"
