The long-held assumption that cutting emissions must come at the cost of growth is being challenged. Zero Carbon Prosperity offers a new framework: we can grow the pie together with renewable energy.
The idea took center stage at a Zero Carbon Prosperity conference held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) in South China's Guangdong province from Oct 26 to 28.
Professor Pan Jiahua, deputy director of National Expert Committee on Climate Change and acting head of HKUST(GZ)'s Center for Global Climate Strategies, laid out this new narrative, while Janos Pasztor, former UN assistant secretary-general, highlighted how the concept fits into the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
