China slammed on Friday Japan's move to use artificial intelligence to distort historical facts and whitewash its crimes of aggression, calling on the international community to reject such a move.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made the remarks following reports saying that Japan's right-wing forces are making continuous efforts to provide mainstream AI models with a distorted narrative about World War II history such as the Nanjing Massacre and the July 7th Incident, also known as the Lugou Bridge Incident.
They are also trying to dress up Japan's aggression against Southeast Asia as concern for resources.
Using technologies to poison the data is the latest tactic of Japan's right-wing forces to whitewash the history of aggression, and the aim is to distort the public's historical perception of World War II, Mao told a daily news conference.
The intention behind it is to clear the path for Japan to escape the restrictions of the post-war system and accelerate its remilitarization, Mao said.
The ill-intentioned and behind-the-scenes maneuver of Japan's right-wing forces greatly hurts the feelings of people from the victim countries of Japanese aggression and constitutes a blatant affront to human conscience, she said.
The international community must stay on high alert and jointly reject such moves, Mao added.
