Wang-Rubio call focuses on high-level exchanges

Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on China and the United States to prepare well for the next stage of high-level exchanges in a spirit of equality, respect and mutual benefit, during a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday.

Wang said that bilateral relations have generally been moving along the course of constructive strategic stability set by the two heads of state, helping to meet the expectations of the international community.

He emphasized that head-of-state diplomacy serves as an anchor for China-US relations.

Beijing and Washington should strengthen communication, advance cooperation, manage differences and respect each other's core interests, Wang said.

He urged both countries to send a positive message that China and the US are committed to advancing a constructive relationship of strategic stability and jointly promoting world peace and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and other issues.

Since US President Donald Trump took office in January 2025, President Xi Jinping and Trump have had two face-to-face meetings and five phone calls, and have written each other many letters.

During Trump's state visit to China in May, Xi and Trump agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability, providing strategic guidance for bilateral ties over the next three years and beyond.

Xi said constructive strategic stability means positive stability with cooperation as the mainstay, healthy stability with competition within proper limits, constant stability with manageable differences, and lasting stability with expectable peace.

At a May 15 media briefing on the China-US summit and common understandings, Wang said that Xi would make a state visit to the US this fall at Trump's invitation.
