China ready to boost AI cooperation with Brazil

China is ready to work with Brazil to promote the development of artificial intelligence, or AI, in a beneficial and inclusive way and ensure the technology benefits humanity, China's top diplomat Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, made the remarks while meeting in Beijing with Celso Amorim, chief adviser to the president of Brazil for foreign policy.

Wang welcomed Brazil's decision to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization and said China and Brazil, as the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western hemispheres respectively, should strengthen strategic communication and deepen strategic cooperation.

He called on the two countries to work together to inject greater stability into a turbulent world, and to make new contributions to global peace and development.

Wang said China and Brazil should continue to deepen cooperation across various fields, leverage their complementary strengths, and pursue win-win cooperation to support their respective development and revitalization.

The two countries should also strengthen strategic coordination on major international and regional issues, uphold multilateralism, and work together to promote greater unity and strength among the Global South, he added.

Amorim said Brazil and China are both major countries of the Global South and that against the backdrop of a turbulent international situation, Brazil-China relations have gone beyond the bilateral scope and assumed growing significance.

He called for closer communication and coordination between the two countries on multilateral platforms, including BRICS, to jointly contribute to world peace and development.

Brazil stands ready to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, advance practical cooperation in various fields, and further enrich the Brazil-China community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet, he said.

Both sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situations in Latin America and the Middle East.
