The Spring Summer 2027 Beijing Fashion Week opened with a striking show by 82-year-old copper sculptor Zhu Bingren at Wangfujing, Beijing. The runway glowed in shades of copper, but this was far from an ordinary fashion show. It brought back the work of a veteran craftsman, who has spent years melting and shaping copper, into the world of fashion.
As models walked the runway, the weight of copper and the lightness of silk entered into a dialogue across materials and time.
The collection featured acetate, silk, Xiangyun silk, and denim, blending the sharp structures of modern fashion with the understated elegance of traditional aesthetics. Custom dyeing, brocade weaving, embroidery, and gold couching translated the colors, textures and visual language of the artist's molten-copper art onto the garments.
