US stocks sink amid AI slowdown warnings

NEW YORK -- US stocks ended lower on Monday, pressured by unexpected calls from AI executives for an industry-wide slowdown in AI development.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 152.09 points, or 0.29 percent, to 52,421.2. The S&P 500 sank 37 points, or 0.48 percent, to 7,619.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 146.62 points, or 0.56 percent, to 26,186.41.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the red, with technology and industrials leading the laggards by dropping 1.67 percent and 1.44 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and health led the gainers by adding 2.79 percent and 1.35 percent, respectively.
