The Michelin Guide Chengdu 2026 was unveiled on Sept 1, featuring 76 restaurants and highlighting the continued evolution of the southwestern Chinese city's increasingly diverse dining scene.

The fifth edition of the guide includes 13 Michelin-starred restaurants, 27 Bib Gourmand establishments and 36 Michelin-selected restaurants. Restaurant Co-, operated by a young culinary team, was promoted to one Michelin star, while four restaurants were newly awarded Bib Gourmand recognition.

"Chengdu's culinary scene is undergoing a gentle transformation," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, noting that young talent, innovation and increasingly diverse dining options are bringing new vitality to the city.

He added that many small eateries once hidden along Chengdu's streets have gradually become local landmarks, improving both their food and service while retaining their distinctive character.

Xin Rong Ji and Yu Zhi Lan retained their two Michelin stars, while 10 restaurants maintained their one Michelin star. They include Sichuan restaurants such as Chaimen Hui, Fang Xiang Jing, Fu Rong Huang, Ma's Kitchen, Silver Pot and Xu's Cuisine, alongside restaurants specializing in Fujian cuisine, vegetarian dining and contemporary European cuisine.

Silver Pot, known for its interpretation of modern Sichuan cuisine, said retaining its Michelin star was more than an accumulation of honors, describing the recognition as part of its continuing effort to answer the question of what modern Sichuan cuisine can be.

The restaurant said it remains committed to reimagining the foundations and spirit of Sichuan flavors through an international perspective on ingredients, using techniques of deconstruction and reconstruction to give familiar elements such as the numbing sensation of Sichuan peppercorn and the aromas of fermentation new expressions.

Mi Xun Teahouse also retained its Michelin Green Star for its commitment to sustainability. Built around a farm-to-table philosophy, the vegetarian restaurant uses seasonal ingredients while supporting local wineries, tea producers and agricultural communities.

Four new restaurants were added to the Bib Gourmand selection, including eateries specializing in steamed beef with rice flour, Sichuan beef dishes, Chaozhou cuisine and hot pot.

Five restaurants also entered the Michelin-selected category for the first time.

The guide additionally honored three young industry professionals with its Young Chef, Sommelier and Service awards, underscoring the growing role of a new generation of culinary talent in shaping Chengdu's dining landscape.
