China's first European sausage museum opens in Harbin
The newly opened Harbin Red Sausage Museum in Harbin, Heilongjiang province has become a new cultural landmark in the city, attracting many locals and tourists.
It covers an exhibition area of 150 square meters, representing over 200 historical artifacts, and more than 20 classic European sausages.
As the first European sausage-themed museum in China, it integrates historical exhibits, sausage sales, and on-site tasting.
Three themed panels outline the development of Harbin's European sausages over more than 100 years since the construction of the Middle East Railway in 1898.
Old factory blueprints, postcards, invoices, and other precious historical materials present the origin stories of Harbin's sausages.
In the display cases, over 20 sausage-making tools from different periods, such as manual meat grinders, old-fashioned sausage stuffers, and wooden drying racks, silently tell the story of craftsmanship before the widespread use of electric equipment.
A recreated old Harbin European food store features a glass counter displaying more than 20 classic European sausages, some of which are hard to find on the market but can be purchased here.
The tasting area offers a more immersive experience.
A century-old Russian liquor cabinet stands against the wall, with a traditional Russian pull-out table in the center.
Visitors can enjoy freshly sliced European sausages paired with Russian bread and pickled vegetables, along with a glass of freshly brewed Kvass, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a century-old Russian living room.
