Volunteers from Myanmar donate blood to save elderly Chinese patient in Yunnan

Several volunteers from Myanmar recently donated blood to an 80-year-old Chinese patient undergoing emergency surgery in Ruili, Yunnan province.

The patient, who was admitted to a hospital in the border city after suffering a fall, was in poor condition and required a complex, high-risk operation. Doctors said sufficient blood reserves were needed before the surgery could proceed.

After learning of the urgent need, a volunteer service center in Ruili issued an appeal for blood donations. Several Myanmar volunteers responded and donated at their local blood station.

Ma Win Mar Htay, a Burmese volunteer who has long participated in community service in Ruili, said she did not hesitate to donate after learning about the patient's condition. "It is an honor to do my small part to help save a life," she said.

Another volunteer, Thida Khaing, said the friendship between the people of China and Myanmar is reflected in everyday acts of mutual support that transcend national borders.

Since 2023, Burmese volunteers at the center have made nearly 600 blood donations, according to local authorities, helping support cross-border public welfare initiatives and people in need.
