Beijing went through the entire month of June without recording a single high-temperature day, marking the first time since 2015 that the capital's maximum temperature failed to reach 35 C, according to local meteorological authorities.
Data from the Beijing Climate Center showed that the average temperature at the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, which serves as the city's official benchmark, was 24.0 C from June 1 to 29, 1.3 degrees below the long-term average of 25.3 C. This stands in stark contrast to June 2025, which saw eight days above 35 C, Beijing Daily reported on Tuesday.
Meteorologists attribute the unusually cool weather to persistent cold vortex systems that frequently affected the region, suppressing temperatures and preventing them from crossing the 35 degrees Celsius mark, according to the report.
While the cooler conditions are a welcome reprieve, the city is now entering its rainy season. With rising temperatures and humidity creating a breeding ground for bacteria, health authorities are reminding citizens to remain vigilant. Residents are advised to pay attention to food and water hygiene to prevent intestinal infectious diseases, which are common in the summer months.
