China's border anti-drug efforts making progress

China's immigration authorities have solved 186 drug-related cases in ports and border areas so far this year, the National Immigration Administration said on Friday. As of Thursday, they had arrested 243 suspects and seized 4.07 metric tons of drugs, including 45 cases involving more than 10 kilograms each, indicating progress in border anti-drug work.

In recent years, immigration authorities have stepped up efforts to cut drug sources and trafficking routes, while cracking down on drug crimes at ports and borders.

Using a policing model that combines professional teams, operational mechanisms and big data, authorities have focused on dismantling gangs and trafficking networks, capturing major traffickers, cutting smuggling channels and seizing drug-related assets.

The administration said authorities have worked to improve resource sharing, police coordination and regional cooperation, while integrating enforcement, prevention, control, governance and publicity measures.

They have also expanded practical law enforcement cooperation with neighboring countries to build stronger anti-drug defense mechanisms in ports and border areas.

An administration official said immigration authorities will continue to improve border and port prevention networks, refine anti-drug tactics and deepen cross-border law enforcement cooperation.

They will pursue the campaign to cut drug sources and trafficking routes, maintain a harsh stance towards drug offences at ports and borders, and make every effort to prevent drugs from entering the country, the official said.
