Honduras clarification reaffirms one-China principle, ministry says

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday that the Honduran government's clarification of false claims made by the Taiwan authorities once again underscored that the one-China principle reflects the prevailing international consensus and the trend of the times.

His remarks came after the Honduran Foreign Ministry said on social media that the country was not engaged in any official talks or contacts with the Taiwan authorities regarding the restoration of so-called diplomatic relations. It also said the Central American country's foreign policy is conducted through the appropriate institutional channels and in accordance with its existing diplomatic commitments.

"This once again demonstrates that upholding the one-China principle represents the prevailing international consensus, the will of the people and the trend of the times," Guo told a regular news briefing in Beijing

"'Taiwan independence' separatist forces and the Democratic Progressive Party authorities are acting against the tide of history. They have no popular support and are doomed to fail," he said.

The spokesman noted that since China and Honduras established diplomatic relations, ties have developed rapidly on the basis of the one-China principle, while practical cooperation across various fields has contributed to Honduras' economic and social development.

"The facts have fully demonstrated that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras serves the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries and their peoples," he said.

"China stands ready to work with Honduras to continue advancing bilateral relations on the basis of the one-China principle," Guo added.
