Driven by a massive build-out of home installations and faster public stations, China's electric vehicle charging infrastructure topped 22.49 million units by the end of May, surging 44.9 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest industry data.
Data from the National Energy Administration revealed that public charging facilities accounted for 4.95 million units, representing a 25.9 percent year-on-year growth.
Meanwhile, the private sector saw even faster adoption, driven by the rapid development of home charging setups. The number of private EV charging units surged to 17.55 million, logging a 51.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The year-on-year growth rate for private charging facilities has consistently exceeded the 50 percent mark throughout this year. Additionally, the registered power capacity for private charging installations has reached 151 million kilovolt-amperes, the data showed.
