The UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation on Monday, June 22, amid weakening electoral performance and mounting internal Labour Party pressure, saying he would begin an orderly transition of Labour Party leadership.
Starmer has asked the Labour Party to set out a timetable to find his replacement, with nominations opening for the party leadership on July 9.
This will mean a new leader is in place before Parliament returns in September.
Until then, he will remain in post as prime minister, he says.
