Restoration turns abandoned terraces into tourism draw

The Yunhe rice terraces in eastern China's Zhejiang province were once nearly two-thirds abandoned, as the steep slopes and population outflow took their toll.
Today, after more than a decade of restoration, clean water, fresh air and rare birds have returned. So have young people seeking new opportunities.
Last year, the FAO recognized the Yunhe rice terraces for their effective practices and innovations in helping transform agrifood systems.
Watch how a 1,000-year-old landscape has been transformed to embody "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
