Jewels on the plateau

Qinghai province once played a vital role in the Silk Road's network of plateau routes. A key landmark along these channels was the Qutan Temple, in Haidong, Qinghai. Built in the 14th century, the temple preserves architecture, sculptures, murals and other artifacts that reflect centuries of cultural openness, exchange, and coexistence.

An exhibition, Plateau Silk Road, Radiance of Qutan, now on view at the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum in Beijing, gathers selected objects of historical and artistic significance related to the Silk Road, from Qinghai's various institutions, including Qutan Temple. Pottery, murals, goldware, statues, and documents are presented alongside immersive digital installations, as well as displays of folk crafts and creative products, forming a vivid cultural tapestry that spans time and space. The exhibition runs until Aug 31.

9 am-5 pm, closed on Mondays. 16 Hujing East Road, Chaoyang district, Beijing. 010-8799-1766.
