Chongqing hosts National Arm Wrestling Youth Open
Chongqing’s Liangjiang New Area hosted the 2026 National Arm Wrestling Youth Open on Saturday, drawing over 100 male participants, aged 14 to 22, from across the country.
This year marks the first time the municipality has included a youth event in the sport. It has hosted adult arm wrestling competitions for years.
Held annually in a shopping mall, the event has become a highlight of the city’s international culture and sports scene. Last year’s 18th Chongqing International Arm Wrestling Open set records for participation and prize money, drawing approximately 230 competitors from China, Russia, and Armenia.
“Arm wrestling is a recognized international sport, especially popular in Europe and America, and is distinct from casual arm wrestling due to its rigorous training and competition standards,” said Jiang Liya, director of the Chongqing Arm Wrestling Association.
“We aim to create a platform for young competitors to exchange skills and showcase talent, further promoting the sport among the youth,” Jiang said. He added that the youth open features multiple weight classes for left and right-hand competitions.
“I’m here to make friends and to win,” said 19-year-old Yuan Zhaolin, from Zibo, Shandong province.
