What stands out in China's experience of sustainable development?
In a recent interview with China Daily's Global Lens, Tatiana Rosito, World Bank director for China, Mongolia and Korea, said China has "interesting, scalable and replicable" experience in its development, worth sharing with the world.
She first affirms China's ecosystem restoration, adding that the Bank and China have worked together on fighting desertification and preventing erosion for more than 20 years. Then environmental solutions: China's experience in controlling air and water pollution is a ready-made example. And the rural-urban link — building sustainable, livable cities and a circular economy — is, she says, exactly the area developing partners most want to work on with China. Under the dual-carbon goals, the energy transition is likewise a good topic for knowledge cooperation.
The "knowledge agenda" she describes runs both ways: inward, to help fill China's gaps; outward, using the World Bank's global reach and analytical skills to curate and translate Chinese solutions so other countries can adapt them to local conditions. In the next five years, she expects the World Bank to continue walking alongside China on sustainable development.
