US expert: US-China climate cooperation matters a lot

Climate change knows no borders. Emissions from one country affect the entire planet, and no nation can go it alone.

John Abraham, professor of thermal sciences at the College of Engineering, University of St. Thomas, in the United States, told China Daily's Global Lens that as the world's two largest economies and major energy users, the US and China share the responsibility to lead and the opportunity to shape a new energy economy.

Abraham stresses that if US-China cooperation bears fruit, it will encourage other countries to follow suit. Climate action is not a zero-sum game — we all win or lose together. Even amid political tensions, scientific cooperation must be protected.

With clean energy costs falling and green technologies scaling up, there is reason for optimism: only by working together can we achieve a win-win future.
