A common cause: China's global contributions to UN peacekeeping
Since 1990, Chinese military has deployed over 50,000 person-times of peacekeepers in more than 20 countries and regions, standing as the second-largest funder of UN peacekeeping operations and the top contributor of troops among the Security Council's permanent members. Today, nearly 1,800 Chinese military personnel serve across seven mission areas and UN headquarters.
These peacekeepers work in high-risk environments where unexploded ordnance, armed clashes and diseases are constant threats. Yet, their missions bring hopes to the crisis-ridden areas.
As we mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and 35th anniversary of Chinese military's participation in UN peacekeeping operations, this documentary takes you behind the headlines.
